Losing a Job and Having Debt - Coping With Unemployment and Your Debt

The recession impacted lots of companies and they were forced to downscale their work force. So if you were in the unfortunate position to get retrenched and lose your job then you are not alone.

Lots of people face this unemployment problem even me. In my work career I worked at 15 companies and was retrenched 3 times. I also worked on contracts most of the other times ranging between 3 - 9 months. I was fired once too lol.

If losing a job is bad enough, but what about your debt? In my case I lost my job and had lots of debt left. There were insurance on some of my debt that made my life easier.

Worst case scenario is that you lose your job through whatever reason and you sit with lots of debt that is not insured.

Get labour and debt insurance

It is a wise thing to have insurance on all of your debt and also insurance on your work. So in the case that you get retrenched that you still get your monthly salary untill you get another job.

Believe me, that having 1000s of debt is not a nice place to be at and also not to have employment.

So I personally had to think out of the box and use my creativity and business mind to survive the times that I didn't have a job.

The egg principle :)

My mom always tell me "Never put all of your eggs in one basket!"

So it is a good idea to get more than one job  for a rainy day. I personally have 3 jobs that keeps me busy and secure for the times I don't have jobs.

Keep yourself up to date

Education is always important for a person and you can never stop learning something new. i love to read and research various topics and if I have the money I study further to enhance my CV and hence make me more marketable career wise.

Invest in yourself and your future

;)
